A report that the BFI had commissioned into the state of the film industry, was buried or three years as it did not make good reading, and was only released as the result of a Freedom of Information request.
Among the problems were:
- A lack of opportunity for new blood to break into the industry
- British companies that formed partnerships with Hollywood studios generated huge losses
- Lack of available investment
