Like so many, J.P. Turner started acting at school, but in 1959 – by gaslight.

Since that time he has been in over one hundred stage productions, playing parts as diverse as Mortimer Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace and Halvard Solness in The Master Builder.  In addition he has directed plays and also written some. Under the guidance and tutelage of the great Michael Green he was one of the authors of Four Plays for Coarse Actors and has been three times a World Coarse Acting Champion.

He has performed at the wonderful Minack Theatre in Cornwall  as Dromio of Syracuse (The Comedy of Errors) and Sir Lucius O’Trigger (The Rivals) and at the equally marvelous Georgian Theatre in Richmond , Yorkshire as Sir Oliver Surface in The School for Scandal.  Most recently he played George Bernard Shaw in a new play about the actress Ellen Terry and in a new stage production of Arthur Miller’s Broken Glass.

You might also have caught him on stage at The Salisbury Playhouse, The Arts Theatre Cambridge or The Shaftesbury Theatre in London ’s West End .
In recent years, J.P. has been concentrating more on film, television and voice-over work. He narrated award-winning artist Emily Wardill’s installation Sick Serena and Dregs and Wreck and Wreck which has been exhibited in London (at the ICA ), in Norway and in the US .  He has also appeared in Midsomer Murders, and a feature film, The Greenwich Village Massacre intemded for the Sundance Festival in America.  His more recent projects include Artificial Horizon and several shorts over the last couple of years
